Add a Common Meal

Common meals are scheduled, joined, and edited using the Common Meals Calendar on the Calendars page.

When you click on the date of the meal or the meal listing, a form for the meal will open that can be completed or edited. Many settings on this form will appear by default. Some can be changed as you enter the meal details; others can be changed by a calendar administrator or the lead for meals.

These settings include:

  • Meal types and their labels (adult, kid, vegetarian, guest, etc.)
  • Budget amounts for each meal type
  • Extra charges for each meal type
  • Agreements or special information about this meal
  • Names of the jobs for which people can volunteer
  • Location and whether more than one location can be reserved for a meal
  • Beginning and end times
  • Keywords for iCal entries on members’ calendars
  • Invoice Account ID (Common Meals Income, #6745, Guest, etc.)
  • Invoice timing, number of days after the meal
  • Jobs needing volunteers ( Additional Cooks, Assistant Cook, Setup, Clean, etc.)
  • Where announcements should be sent
  • Reminder settings
  • Whether Late Plates will be available
  • Date the signups for the meal will be closed and the message shown
  • Maximum number of diners
  • Whether workers are listed as individual members or households

Like settings on other parts of Mosaic, additional labels or settings can be added at the request of the community.

Scheduling, Joining, or Editing a Common Meal

To add a meal, click on the Add button in the date field on the Common Meals Calendar.

A form will open that can be completed or edited. The form is long but not all fields will be relevant for every meal and they can be left blank. Most of the fields are self-explanatory.

If you would like to sign up for this meal, those fields are at the bottom of the form. The Sign up for Meal button will open another form to enter the number of reservations in each category, request a late plate, and any notes. Below this, use the Reminders button to open a form to enter the reminders you would like to be sent.

Below those are three buttons: a print button, and buttons to send emails to all the diners or all the workers.

Remember to click save to save the form.

The Common Meal calendar can be configured to display a "sign up" or "edit sign up" button directly on the calendar as a convenience for people who want to sign up to eat or work at a meal. The setting is at Edit Site->Calendars->Common Meals->"show sign up button in calendar view".
